Team Merrell’s Bird flying to GodZone

 

ARWC13 NachoCembellin 18Merrell Adventure Addicts captain Graham bird jets off today to join an international Merrell team at the 500km GodZone adventure race in New Zealand.

The event forms part for the adventure racing World Series and will see 41 mixed gender teams line up for New Zealand’s premier adventure race. Being staged in the Kaikoura district, three hours north of Christchurch on the South Island, the event promises to be spectacular, providing the ideal terrain to test the racers. The course is expected to take the leaders 3-4 days to complete with the back teams being given 7 days. Racing nonstop over the 500km, competitors will need to navigate themselves as they trek/run, mountain bike, kayak and raft, carrying all their gear with them, with refilling only allowed at designated transition points.

 

The “Merrell Alpha Team” has drawn on Merrell ambassadors from around the world, throwing the team together to tackle this epic adventure. “The primary focus will be about four people, with varied skill levels, challenging themselves in a variety of disciplines in some of the most beautiful and extreme landscapes in the world,” commented Team coordinator Dan Whitney. “The team will be filmed as they experience the highs and lows of the week-long trip, developing their relationship as they unite taking on this unique expedition in New Zealand’s stunning South island”.

 

GodZone will bring together English adventurer journalist and former British Army Captain, Tobais Mews; New Zealander multisporter and slalom kayaker, Ben Gibson; Chilean triathlete and sportswomen, Catalina Gerstle and South African adventure racing veteran, Graham Bird. Forming the Merrell Alpha pack, the team will focus on working together as a unit as they take on the challenge of completing the 500km course.

 

Race registration and gear checks take place on Friday, 7th March with the course being revealed to competitors on Saturday 8th March. The race is expected to start later the Saturday. Follow the team live via the event website: http://www.godzoneadventure.com
