3 Silos Farm, hosted the event, a trail run (10km and 19km). Mark Oberem, owner of the farm, decided that he wanted to give East Londoners a safe, outdoor training option, instead of the same old same old. Thats when he started develping his game farm into an adventurers play ground.
The founders of Eastern Cape Adventures, Craig Giese, Candy and Brad Boonzaier, heard what Mark was doing for the area and decided that his farm would be perfect to launch the new events series and WHAT a great idea that was.
The 19km race started at 15h00 and the 9km started 5 minutes after. There were athletes from all backgrounds at the start (some were not athletes at all), all eager to try the trails we had all heard so much about.
139 entrants started and finished the course made up of some of the best trail climbs, kloofs switch backs, bridge crossings and so much more than I have had in one race. There was loads of game to be seen along the route.
Although I was fortunate enough to have won the race in a time of 1h22 the real “winners” on the day were those that had a hand in putting the whole event together.
Congratulations to ECA and Mark Oberem for putting on such a wonderful event.
And a huge thank you to Merrell for the support they give me, I`m always comfortable tackling any situation in my Merrell gear. You guys make it easy for me to “GET OUTSIDE”.
